ICE Live: agenda starts to take shape

11.05 | 6 June 2022 |

Hazard perception and the skills of pedestrians are among the topics to be discussed at the UK’s first conference focused on road and community safety virtual reality education.

Organised by FirstCar and the ICE Hub, the aim of ICE Live is to increase awareness of this rapidly developing technology, improve understanding of its application in an educational setting and help attendees develop robust delivery plans to include the use of VR.

The event takes place on Wednesday 19 October 2022, hosted by West Midlands Police at their Tally Ho Conference & Banqueting Centre, Edgbaston.

It is being supported by Road Safety GB.

The content of ICE Live 2022 is designed to appeal to a wide range of professionals who are both actively using VR and keen to expand their knowledge and to those who wish to explore the possibilities VR can bring to enhance their educational work.

Among the first speakers to be confirmed is professor David Crundall from Nottingham Trent University/Esitu Solutions, who will explore the usage of VR in hazard perception training.

Prof Crundall will present the findings of a study, which saw a series of 360-degree hazard tests developed and presented to participants through VR headsets.

The participants also took single-screen equivalent tests – with the performance of the drivers compared to establish whether the VR tests were better at separating the safe from less-safe drivers.

Also on the agenda is Ian Edwards from New View Consultants.

Ian will explore how VR and related technologies could be used to improve the evaluation of pedestrian skills interventions.

Delegate registration is open, with a discounted rate available for Road Safety GB members.

Please note that bookings will be secured on a first-come-first-served basis and there is a maximum capacity of just 250 for the event.
