The London Road Safety Council is offering a one-day training session on the topic of social media, which will be delivered by road safety officers, for road safety officers.

The London Road Safety Council says the “fast moving world of social media presents a plethora of opportunities to transport professionals”, and that it is important for road safety professionals to keep up-to-date with the most effective platforms, and to know about emerging mediums.

The Council has engaged the services of two road safety officers who are expert in this field, Matt Staton and Iain Temperton, who jointly manage the Road Safety GB twitter feed.

Matt Staton is lead road safety officer at Cambridgeshire County Council, and Iain Temperton is road safety team manager at Norfolk County Council. The duo presented at the 2014 National Road Safety Conference on the subject of using social media in a professional capacity.

The training day will cover:
• The main social media platforms and how they can be used in a road safety capacity.
• Different styles of approach between local authorities, and the pros and cons of each.
• Message content – basic principles, including using paid-for advertising on social media.
• The value and use of graphics.
• Some useful tools to make life easier.
• Getting a council communications team on board.

The training session will be held on 29 May (10.30 – 4.00pm) in Camden, central London and the delegate fee is £195.
