24 schools and academies from across Medway took part in the 2012 Golden Boot Challenge with St James CE Primary School, Grain, being declared the overall winner.
The challenge ran from 1 to 19 October, alongside International Walk to School Month, and encourages schools to tally the highest percentage of walks on the school journey.
St James’ CE Primary School, Grain, won the Primary school category with 91.4% of pupils walking; with 78.1%, Greenacre School, Chatham, won the Second school category; and a special commendation went to Bishop of Rochester Academy, Chatham, with 85.2% of pupils in years 7 and 8 walking.
Cllr Phil Filmer, Medway Council portfolio holder for front line services, said: “Well done to all the pupils, staff and parents that took part in this challenge, especially those who changed their usual way of getting to and from school to take part. I hope they continue to do so even though the challenge is now complete.”
Presentations will be made to the schools by Medway Council’s road safety team.
