17 road safety teams join summer ‘morning after’ campaign

42 local authorities are now supporting the ‘Morning After’ drink drive campaign, with 17 specifically utilising the campaign’s 2013 summer drink drive creative.

Morning After, which has been running for several years, provides information about how long it takes for alcohol to pass through the body and reminds drivers that they could still be over the limit the day after drinking.

The most recent road safety teams to join the campaign are Central Bedfordshire, Gloucestershire, Luton, Solihull and West Berkshire.

The current phase of activity, ‘Summer social’, uses DfT stats to highlight that there are more drink drive casualties in the summer months than during the winter period.

The creative reminds people of the danger of being inadvertently over the drink drive limit the morning after a summer social event such as a BBQ, garden party, wedding or other gathering with family or friends.

The road safety teams to support ‘Summer social’ are: Bath & North East Somerset; Bristol; Cambridgeshire; Central Bedfordshire; East Riding; Hull; Luton; North East Lincolnshire; North Lincolnshire; North Somerset; Peterborough; Solihull; Southend-On-Sea; South Gloucestershire; Swindon; West Berkshire; and The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

David Frost, from the Morning After campaign, said: “We’re naturally delighted that so many road safety teams are supporting the campaign, which is helping to spread the message that driving the morning after a heavy night of drinking is a real road safety problem.

“The summer is a great time to enjoy a get together, but drivers should be aware of not regretting the Morning After.”
