National Conference – organisers issue call for papers

09.05 | 26 March 2019 |

The 2019 National Road Safety Conference committee has issued a call for papers, with speakers sought to present on a range of ‘grassroots’ road safety issues.

Organised by Road Safety GB, the 11th running of the National Conference takes place at The International Centre in Telford on 12-13 November.

The 2019 conference – which has the theme ‘Beyond 2020: the future of road safety in the UK’ – will follow a similar format to previous years, with both a main and fringe programme running concurrently.

More than 130 road safety professionals have already registered to attend the conference.

The conference committee has published an outline of the topics to be covered this year, and also revealed a number of new initiatives for 2019 – including an informal chat show style session on the closing afternoon.

The committee is now inviting expressions of interest from road safety practitioners, academics and other suitably qualified individuals who would like to contribute to the opening conference session, which will comprise a series of presentations tailored for practitioners, covering a range of ‘grassroots’ road safety issues such as:

  • Sustainable transport & road safety
  • Public health & air quality
  • Driving for work
  • Cyclists & motorcyclists (specifically ‘twist and go’ riders)
  • The transition from primary to secondary school
  • Securing funding for road safety interventions
  • Dealing with internal ‘politics’ and competing demands

In addition, anyone wishing to submit a paper for the fringe programme – on any road safety related topic – is also invited to do so.

To express interest in delivering a presentation, contact Nick Rawlings by email, giving a title and brief overview of the proposed presentation and a brief speaker biog for whoever will deliver the presentation. A single paragraph will suffice for each, and the deadline for expressions of interest is Friday 5 April.

Delegate registration
Delegate registration is now open and the full residential fee is £355 for Road Safety GB/Academy members, and £445 for other attendees. The residential rate includes all conference sessions, refreshments throughout the two days, overnight accommodation and the conference dinner.

Day delegate places are available for both or either day, from £105 (all prices plus VAT).

Click here to book a place to attend, or for more information contact Sally Bartrum (delegate registration) or Nick Rawlings (agenda/speakers etc) on 01379 650112.
