National Conference returns in 2022

After a break of what will be three years, the National Road Safety Conference will return as a live in-person event in November 2022 – with delegate registration now open.

Road Safety GB’s flagship event has not been held since 2019, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. But with restrictions easing, the event will return later this year at The Majestic Hotel in Harrogate on 9-10 November.

James Gibson, executive director of Road Safety GB and a member of the conference organising committee, said: “We are thrilled to announce that National Conference will return this year.

“While the online Festival of Road Safety was a big success in the exceptional circumstances of 2020 and 2021, there is nothing quite like an in-person conference in terms of the networking and face-to-face learning opportunities it provides – and we are confident that road safety professionals from across the UK will relish this once-a-year opportunity to meet up with colleagues.”

National Conference 2022 is being organised by Road Safety GB Yorkshire & Humber region. It will be the second time the conference has been held in Harrogate, with the 2013 event also staged at the same venue.

While much of the formula that has proven successful over the years remains the same for 2022, there are a couple of tweaks to the timings, based on feedback from previous attendees.

The conference will commence earlier on day one, at 11.00am subject to final confirmation, while the final afternoon will comprise a series of optional workshops which delegates will be invited to pre-register to attend.

Anyone who does not register to attend a workshop will be free to depart after lunch on day two (10 November).

While the full agenda is currently under development, the following topics and themes will be covered:

  • Road safety research
  • What’s on the horizon?
  • The road to Vision Zero
  • Influencing road user behaviour
  • Topical topics

The popular ‘speed dating’ session and Fringe programme have also been retained.

A call for papers will be issued in the coming days, but anyone wishing to submit a paper should contact Nick Rawlings by email, sending the title and brief overview/abstract for the proposed presentation, along with a brief speaker biog.

Delegate registration is now open, with a special rate for Road Safety GB and Academy members. Full/residential and day delegate packages are available, as is the opportunity to book accommodation on the evening prior to the conference (8 November).

Meanwhile, booking is also open for the exhibition which runs alongside the conference. Exhibition slots are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, and the past six events have been fully subscribed.
