New THINK! campaign encourages riders to take further training

Chaz Davies and Alan Davies, world superbike rider and comedian respectively, both feature in the latest THINK! campaign which encourages riders to undertake further training to improve their safety.

The campaign comprises a series of short films which will be released throughout September on the THINK BIKER Facebook page and on YouTube.

In the films, Chaz Davies and Alan Davies are joined by eight regular riders recruited through the THINK BIKER Facebook page and Motorcycle News magazine. The riders are filmed completing a further training course that covers key principles of advanced riding, including using a planned system of riding, positioning, speed and observation.

Chaz Davies, who despite racing bikes since 1995 only took his road test this summer, said: “You really are never too good to be a better rider – it’s as simple as that. I’ve been working for 15 years to try and be better on the track and that applies on the road as well.

“There are so many more variables on the road and I think people can get a little bit over confident, but you are never too good. You never know what’s around the corner.

“The training really got me thinking. The instructors pre-empted every situation that I spotted a couple of seconds later. It really showed me the importance of being one step ahead and reading the road.”

Robert Goodwill, transport minister, said: “With motorcyclists 55 times more likely than car drivers to be killed or seriously hurt in a collision, it is clear that no rider is ever too good for the road. There is always more to learn – even if you are a professional rider.

“I would encourage anyone who is a rider to get online and sign up for further training to help you stay safe.”

A great initiative but worth noting very similar to “A street, A Track an Open Road” produced by MCI in 2005 which featured Chris Walker, Suzi Perry (pre F1) and James Toseland (pre BT Sport MotoGP pundit days). Now long out of production STOR can be found on the IHE Motorcycling Guidelines YouTube site http://tiny.cc/2dvmmx along with both Great Roads Great Rides (1 & 2) and Vic Roads making Roads Motorcycle Friendly

About time someone got hold of some notable celebrities with clout and or credibility of the motorcycling scene and put them on a bike and made use of their expertise. Let’s hope that like Carling this reaches parts, or in this case possible casualties, that other videos do not reach.

This is brilliant and just what the campaign needs. Well done Chaz.
