The nomination process for the 2018 FirstCar Young Driver Road Safety Awards has now opened, with entries invited in five different categories.
Now in their third year, the FirstCar Young Driver Road Safety Awards are sponsored by Road Safety Support (RSS) and will once again be presented at Young Driver Focus, which takes place at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall, London on 25 April 2018.
FirstCar launched this awards scheme in 2015 to reward the ‘unsung heroes’ in road safety and ‘recognise the excellent work of road safety professionals’ in seeking to reduce casualties among young drivers.
The awards are now established and are sought after by the professionals working within the road safety sector.
For 2018, there are five categories: Best Education and Training Initiative; Best Partnership Scheme; Best Young Driver Campaign; Best New Scheme; and Best Private Sector Initiative.
The winners will be decided by a panel of judges with extensive industry experience, who will be looking for schemes with clear and measurable aims and objectives and for evidence of evaluation. Gold, silver and bronze awards may be awarded in each category.
The 2017 ‘gold’ award winners (pictured above) were: TTC Group (Education & Training); Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (Partnership); Safer Essex Roads Partnership (Campaign); and Northamptonshire Highways (New Scheme).
James Evans, founder of FirstCar, said: “We are delighted with how successful the awards have become and are very keen to recognise all the hard work that goes on in the road safety sector, which is often unrewarded.’’
Emma Kelly, business development and PR manager at Road Safety Support, said: “We need innovative projects that are well evidenced and robustly evaluated to help us to reduce collisions involving young road users.
“We are excited to be supporting these prestigious awards again this year. It is only by working together in collaboration that, ultimately, we will save lives on our roads.”
The 2018 awards are open to campaigns and initiatives which have run between 1 January and 31 December 2017, and entries need to be submitted by 26 January 2018.
