The National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme (NDORS) is helping to fund a stage show targeting Year 9 pupils, which uses social media to challenge attitudes and behaviours to road safety.
The stage show – ‘Josh Green Posted On Your Wall’ – has been developed in partnership with the Tyne and Wear and Northumberland Road Safety Group and Theatre and Learning Ltd.
It is about to embark on a tour of the region’s schools to drive home the message that reckless behaviour around traffic and transport can lead to serious injury and death.
The story is based around three characters – Josh, Sarah, and Zac – and examines their behaviour at the roadside and while using public transport. Throughout the show a rear projection screen supports the action by becoming the backdrop of the required scene; displaying pictures and videos and representing the Facebook pages the characters look at and post on.
A number of video clips filmed on mobile phones are also used to illustrate and underpin the behaviours that are explored within the show. Post-show workshops will follow each event to explore the themes covered during the performance.
The National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme (NDORS) aims to improve driving standards through re-training as an alternative to prosecution. Offending drivers pay £80 to take one of the courses and this revenue is then made available to local authorities to fund a range of road safety schemes.

Fantastic idea – addressing the two school travel issues that are relevant to this age range. Hope they decide to tour further than the North East!
