The Roads Victims Trust has announced that its long-time chief executive, Mark Turner, has stepped down.

Founded in 1995, the Road Victims Trust (RVT) provides emotional and practical support to those affected by fatal road collisions in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

The RVT works in partnership with police forces and road safety partnerships across the three counties. Its team of volunteers and coordinating staff deliver face-to face-counselling and support for as long as is needed.

Mark Turner said: “It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside a team of dedicated professionals and volunteers who have done so much to support those at their lowest ebb.

“The RVT has shown how working together with police and emergency services, road safety partnerships and a multitude of others can enable the best levels of post-collision support.

“You cannot fail to be moved by the dignity and bravery of those bereaved by a road death, and that has served as a constant inspiration to me.”

Colleagues have been quick to praise Mark’s impact, including Lyn Hesse, chair of RVT trustees and senior road safety officer at Cambridgeshire County Council.

Lyn said: “We would like to thank Mark for his dedication to The Road Victims Trust over the past 10 years.

“Mark has played a pivotal role in the RVT’s growth and achievements, helping to deliver the best possible support to those in their time of need. It has been a great privilege for all of us to work alongside Mark and he has been such an inspirational leader.”

Paul Cook has been named the RVT’s new chief executive, describing it as both an honour and a privilege.

Paul Cook said: “Mark’s passion, commitment and dedication over a ten-year period have created an incredible legacy and platform which I will endeavour to build upon. I am really looking forward to working with my amazing team of staff, volunteers and trustees as we continue to provide the highest quality post-collision care and support.

“Working in partnership with key individuals and organisations will be of paramount importance to me, enabling us collaboratively to advance the road safety and post-collision response agendas.”

Paul will be supported by director of operations, Sam Baker.
