Good Egg Safety CIC has received a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for its innovative Child Car Seat Safety Training Programme.
Developed in close collaboration with leading industry stakeholders, the training programme is designed to elevate the confidence and competence of public sector personnel and emergency services in child seat safety, enabling them to deliver the highest standard of advice to parents and carers within their communities.
Grounded in the Com-B Behavioural Change Theory and guided by rigorous research from transport specialists Agilysis, the programme leveraged data from MAST, RAIDS, and STATS19 to uncover critical insights. Nearly 1,000 parents, carers, road safety officers, and retailers participated in extensive additional surveys, to identify widespread issues and challenges in child car seat safety.
Janis James MBE, Good Egg Safety chief executive, said: “We owe a profound debt of gratitude to our partners who played an indispensable role in this programme’s success. Their dedication was instrumental in achieving these extraordinary results.”
Good Egg Safety says the programme’s impact has been ‘nothing short of transformative’, having been completed by more than 170 road safety professionals, NHS staff and retailers.
Evaluation shows participants demonstrated a staggering average 480% improvement in knowledge from pre- to post-training. The majority (91%) earned Distinctions, and six months post-training, their average knowledge retention remains at 97%.
Janis added: “All credit goes to these newly accredited Good Egg Safety Advisors, whose passion and dedication shone through. Our rigorous standards demand they use the correct terminology, and we eschew multiple-choice assessments, making their accomplishments even more remarkable. They are truly exceptional and a great pleasure to train!”
His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent, presenting the award, said: “I am deeply impressed by the extensive collaboration that underpins this initiative and the tangible difference it is making for our most vulnerable road users—our children.”
Established by HRH Prince Michael of Kent in 1987, these prestigious awards honour the world’s most outstanding road safety initiatives. They recognise exemplary achievements across the five pillars of the Global Plan for a Decade of Action: road safety management, safer roads, safer vehicles, safer road users, and post-crash response.
