Pupils help launch seasonal campaign

Pupils from Lakes Primary School in Redcar helped launch Redcar and Cleveland Council’s ‘Be Safe Be Seen’ road safety campaign on 3 November.

The council is supporting the THINK! campaign which encourages children to wear bright/fluorescent clothes during the day and reflective clothing after dark.

As part of the campaign, Redcar and Cleveland’s road safety team will also carry out 20 assemblies, targeting schools in collision hotspot areas. The assemblies include a visit from ‘Spike’, the road safety hedgehog, a Tales of the Road video, the opportunity for pupils to dress up in reflective clothing and a competition.

Councillor Helen McLuckie, cabinet member for highways, transportation and planning, said: “We’re supporting this important seasonal initiative as we want our children to stay safe when travelling to and from school.”

The council is also encouraging drivers to play their part by ensuring they use their lights, reduce speeds, stay alert for cyclists and pedestrians and keep a well-maintained car.
