Road Safety GB and PACTS create a Safe System Network

09.23 | 7 April 2025 |

Road Safety GB and PACTS are working together to encourage collaboration between local road safety partnerships/transport authorities and other stakeholders working to implement the Safe System.

The aim is to develop a network where information, resources and contacts can be shared.

The foundations of this Safe System Practitioner Network have already been established with a number of transport authorities who have produced road safety strategies based on the Safe System.

To find out more visit the special section created for the Safe System Network on the Road Safety GB Knowledge Centre. The Knowledge Centre is a web-based library of road safety related information and expertise hosted by RSGB. Information within the Knowledge Centre is available free of charge to anyone.

Transport authority strategies and headline information is listed, along with key contact details for those transport authorities to allow communication and collaboration to take place.

If you’ve heard about the Safe System and are ready to implement it then the guide ’10 steps to create a Safe System’, produced by the project steering group, succinctly sets out the changes needed to make a difference. This sits within the available resources on the site which include case studies from the UK.

James Gibson, executive director of Road Safety GB, said: “We have been delighted to work with PACTS on this joint project. The Safe System Network on the Knowledge Centre helps to bring together information in one place. The plan is to publish more strategies when they are produced and add to the resources and contacts.

“The established Help Forum function and subscriber communications within the Knowledge Centre are also going to be used specifically for the Safe System Network.”

Margaret Winchcomb, deputy executive director of PACTS, said: “The whole essence of the Safe System is based on shared responsibility and collaboration. We’re very pleased that this network means the local road safety partnerships which have committed themselves to delivering on a strategy based on the Safe System now have a way to establish connections with others and share knowledge, and challenges. We’re looking forward to continuing to support the growing network.”
