Road safety professionals urged to support tyre safety month

With tyre safety month (October 2013) fast approaching, road safety professionals are being invited to register to receive free campaign materials to help them run activities and initiatives in their local area.

The 2013 campaign, organised by TyreSafe, encourages drivers to check their tyre pressures at least once a month – a simple job which can significantly improve road safety, make tyres last longer, reduce fuel bills and cut carbon emissions.

TyreSafe points to results from a recent pan-European vehicle survey involving 27,000 cars which found that 78% of cars were being driven on under-inflated tyres and 28% had tyres that were either seriously or severely underinflated, greatly reducing their safety.

Tyre safety month 2013 includes a Youtube video/song featuring members of the trade singing along to tune of the famous Queen hit ‘Under pressure’, and a dedicated campaign website.

Stuart Jackson, TyreSafe chairman, said: “Making sure your tyres are properly inflated is a quick and easy job, but sadly one which many drivers fail to do regularly.

“For tyre safety month, we’re calling on road safety professionals to join the campaign and help raise awareness about the importance of making sure tyres are properly inflated.”

Road safety professionals can either register on the campaign website to have materials sent to them, or can download them straight to their desktop.

Stuart Jackson continued: “We’ve worked hard to get our tyre safety month campaign materials ready earlier than ever before so that our supporters have the best opportunity to plan and integrate their own events and activities.

“We’re very proud of what we’ve delivered and I’d encourage as many organisations to get on board as possible and help us make a big difference to improving safety on the UK’s roads.”
