Southend’s road safety team has won the team of the year award in the council’s annual staff awards ceremony, known as STARS (Success, Talent, Achievement, Recognised in Southend).
The event celebrates the efforts of council staff to help people in the borough. The ‘unsung heroes’ were picked from nearly 500 nominations by members of the public, partners, councillors and fellow employees.
The road safety team won the award for playing ‘a hugely important role in teaching young people to be safe cyclists and pedestrians, and working with new and learner drivers to prevent road accidents’, and for ‘fulfilling its role with imagination, commitment and passion’.
