Roads Minister to deliver keynote presentation at NRSC 2024

Lilian Greenwood MP will be the first Minister to deliver an in-person presentation in the National Road Safety Conference’s 14-year history.

The 2024 edition of the National Road Safety Conference (NRSC) will be held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel on 6-7 November.

The event is organised by Road Safety GB and co-sponsored by Jenoptik, National Highways, Transport for West Midlands and Westcotec.

Lilian Greenwood, MP for Nottingham South, became the Minister for the Future of Roads, a portfolio that which includes road safety, in July 2024.

Ms Greenwood was Shadow Secretary of State for Transport between 2015 and 2016, also operating as Shadow Rail Minister from 2011 to 2015.

She was appointed Opposition Deputy Chief Whip by Sir Keir Starmer in May 2021, occupying the role until 2023 when she was made Shadow Minister for Arts, Heritage, and Civil Society.

She also chaired the Transport Select Committee from July 2017 to January 2020.

Bill Smith, Road Safety GB’s director of communications, said: “We are naturally delighted that Ms Greenwood has accepted our invitation to speak at NRSC 2024.

“In doing so she will become the first road safety Minister to speak in person at National Conference, and we are looking forward to meeting her and hearing what she has to say.”

More than 340 road safety professionals have registered to attend the conference and 33 organisations will be represented at the exhibition which runs alongside the conference – the most exhibitors in the event’s 14-year history.

The programme for NRSC 2024 comprises a remarkable 37 main conference presentations, 34 fringe presentations, plus the four workshops and the Question Time session.
