RSGB Academy launches media training courses

Following a pilot earlier this year, the RSGB Academy is delighted to launch two new media training courses.

These two half-day courses are delivered by Road Safety GB Academy with two media experts James Luckhurst (print and broadcast media) and Chris Wolstenholme (social and digital marketing).

They cover:

Half-day Print and broadcast media course

  • How the media work – what they’re looking for and what they need
  • Media editorial styles
  • Understanding local constraints for dealing with the media (corporate communications)
  • Action planning
  • Preparation for radio/TV interviews
  • Valuable interview hints, tricks and tips to improve your delivery
  • Practical experience of conducting radio interviews for both good news and bad news stories
  • Reputational management
  • Dealing with difficult questions, maintaining control and communicating clearly
  • Understand how to brief others for interview such as elected members or senior managers

Half-day Social and digital marketing course

  • Overview of social media, covering the platforms, demographics and target reach
  • Age restrictions to be aware of especially with work in school settings
  • Role of corporate communications within organisations in relation to social media
  • The practicalities of using social media, how to set it up and how to manage it
  • Technology to help run channels
  • Paid social media – best ‘bang for your buck’
  • How to grow social media channels
  • How to handle comments and especially negative or unwelcome comments
  • Examples of social media posts, hints, tricks and tips

It is important to note that both courses must be booked separately.

The first running of the Print and broadcast media course takes place on 16 October (9:30 to 12:30)
