Road Safety GB is inviting nominations for the 2016 Lynda Chalker Award which recognises individuals or organisations that have contributed significantly to road safety in the UK.

The award (or awards), Road Safety GB’s annual opportunity to recognise outstanding contribution(s) to road safety, will be presented at the 2016 National Road Safety Conference in Bristol on 15-16 November.

Lynda Chalker (now the Baroness Chalker of Wallasey), who was transport minister in the mid-1980s, presented LARSOA (now Road Safety GB) with a carriage clock to be used for the Award when she moved to a new post in overseas development.

Two Lynda Chalker Awards were presented at the 2015 National Conference in Nottingham – the first time the accolade has been awarded since 2012 – with Ian Edwards and Graham Compton (pictured) the recipients.

Ian Edwards was recognised for his varied work within road safety, including the instrumental role he played in creating the National Standard for road safety practitioners and developing training courses in partnership with the Road Safety GB Academy. His career includes spells as an approved driving instructor and as road safety manager for Kirklees Council.

Graham Compton, who has been working in road safety since 1963, received the award for the key role he has played in encouraging and facilitating partnership working, and the development and implementation of a casualty reduction strategy for the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership.

The 2016 nomination form is now available to download and the deadline for nominations is 9 September.
