The Road Safety GB South East region recently hosted a one-day event with the aim of developing collaboration between local authorities and wider road safety partners.
The event took place at the Basingstoke headquarters of National Highways on 16 August, with 35 people attending either in-person or online. Colin Evans from National Highways was on hand to offer information and showcase projects linked to the strategic road network.
Attendees learned more about Co-Pilot from James Evans, the initiative’s founder.
James explained how Co-Pilot is a shared library of road safety education and training, created by experts in behaviour change science and nudge theory.
There was also a presentation from Tanya Fosdick, research director at Agilysis. Tanya explained why the data around motorcycle collisions is important and provided a useful insight into data within the region
On the subject of motorcyclists, delegates learned about the work of the National Young Rider Forum from Keith Baldock.
Simon Turner explained how Driving for Better Business (DfBB) can support those trying to work with local businesses in their area and provide free resources, support and guidance.
June Howlett and Rob Heard teamed up to share a new older driver 360 degree film – and talk about/demonstrate VR headsets.
The event closed with a discussion titled ‘What next for the SE region?’, with attendees discussing a range of ideas with the support of James Gibson, Road Safety GB’s executive director.
James said: “Regional groups are extremely important to Road Safety GB and we are always pleased to be able to support and offer advice.
“It was great to see the South East region come together for this hybrid event with many colleagues meeting in person for the first time this year. All with the aim of growing its offering to members.”
The event also featured a bake off, which raised £35 for RoadPeace.
The winners of the bake off were:
- 1st – Rosalyn Taylor from the Amey reception and facilities team at Basingstoke
- 2nd – Peter Ray, ADI
THis looked very interesting and was sorry being in the South East REgion that I knew nothing about it as I would like to have been involved and even put in a input.
