Stage set for 2019 National Conference in Telford

On the eve of the 2019 National Road Safety Conference, Road Safety GB has paid tribute to the event’s sponsors and exhibitors for their ‘invaluable support’.

Organised by Road Safety GB, the 11th running of the National Conference takes place at Telford International Centre on 12-13 November – with more than 320 road safety professionals and others set to attend.

The event is co-sponsored by long-term supporters insurethebox and Jenoptik and for the first time, global automotive company DENSO.

DENSO has 211 worldwide sites and 178,000 employees, more than 1,000 of whom are based in Telford. insurethebox is the UK’s largest telematics (or black box) insurance provider; while Jenoptik is a global leader in the supply and support of average speed enforcement.

Alan Kennedy, executive director of Road Safety GB, said: “We are naturally delighted to have insurethebox, Jenoptik and DENSO on board as a partners for the 2019 National Conference.

“The money we raise through sponsorship and the exhibition is used to offset the costs of staging the conference, and to subsidise the delegate fee for public sector road safety professionals.

“Our aim is to make the conference as affordable as possible for local authority employees to attend, which is one of the reasons we are able to attract in excess of 300 attendees.

“However, it is very important to us that we share similar values with our partners from the commercial sector.”

What’s on the agenda?
The 2019 conference will follow a similar format to previous years, with a main and fringe programme running concurrently. In all the conference comprises 35 presentations, three debate/discussion sessions and five workshops – delivered by 57 speakers, facilitators and other contributors.

Following the opening address by Liz Brooker MBE, chair of Road Safety GB, the first session comprises five presentations covering a range of ‘grass roots’ road safety issues, while day two opens with a session focusing on behavioural change.

Speed dating – which comprises a series of five minute presentations from road safety practitioners – returns for a second year, as does Question Time, a feature of National Conference for several years.

There are also a number of new initiatives – including an informal chat show style session on the closing afternoon, with:

  • Edmund King OBE, president, AA
  • Lembit Opik, director of communications and public affairs, Motorcycle Action Group (MAG)
  • Sally Lines OBE, chief executive, Road Safety Trust

On the final afternoon, delegates will also have the option to attend one of a series of workshops which will run in tandem with the main conference programme.

A record breaking exhibition
