More than 200 road safety professionals will head to central London today to hear from the 17 speakers who will present at the 2016 Young Driver Focus conference.

The third annual Young Driver Focus event, which is once again sold out and with a waiting list, is returning for a second year to the auspicious surroundings of the RAC’s Pall Mall clubhouse, courtesy of the RAC Foundation. The event is organised by Road Safety GB and FirstCar in association with ingenie. It is sponsored by the MIB and supported by THINK! road safety, PACTS, Road Safety Scotland, RoadSafe, the IAM and RoSPA.

The exhibition which runs alongside the conference will feature nine organisations including DriveOn UK, the European Road Safety Charter, First Time Publishing, The Honest Truth, Road Respect, XPI Simulation and Wescotec.

Andrew Jones MP, the road safety minister, will deliver the keynote presentation at the outset of the event, and will then take questions from the audience.

The session titled ‘An international perspective’ will include presentations from Ben Haythorpe and Professor Warren Brodsky who are flying in from Australia and Israel respectively for the conference.

Session two, ‘food for thought’, comprises presentations from TRL’s Shaun Helman and Richard Cuerdon, Lucy Foulkes from UCL and an informal question and answer session on telematics hosted by Richard King, founder of ingenie.

Following presentation of the 2016 FirstCar Young Driver Road Safety Awards, the afternoon will conclude with a series of presentations looking at young driver road safety interventions being delivered ‘on the ground’.

The day will close with a summary and keynote presentation by Med Hughes, executive chairman of RSS, sponsors of the 2016 FirstCar awards.

We will be reporting live from the conference hall throughout the day today.
