A club formed by students in County Mayo (Ireland) is spearheading a campaign which uses peer group pressure to change young road user behaviour.
As part of the ‘one 4 life’ campaign, students pledge to take personal responsibility for road safety and to speak to those they consider to be driving unsafely. They have designed a logo for the campaign and turned it into a text message.
Edith Geraghty, campaign spokesperson, said: ”Until now campaigns have been directed at young people, but this is young people taking the responsibility themselves.”
The campaign was launched on 20 March with presentations by the Gardai, the ambulance service and a father whose son died in a car crash in which three young lives were lost.
