Wakefield MP wins Brake award

Mary Creagh, MP for Wakefield, has been named ‘Parliamentarian of the Month’ by national road safety charity Brake for her work to improve road safety on the A642 crash hotspot in her constituency.

Ten people have died on the 14-mile road in the last three years, so Mary invited key road safety experts to a summit to discuss the problem. She says: “Wakefield has a large number of country roads which have an unacceptable high death toll. High speeds and driver errors can cost lives and destroy families.

“I am thrilled that Brake has recognised my work in Parliament and with Wakefield and Kirklees councils and the police to make the A642 and our city’s streets safer.”
