Young driver delegates head for Swindon

168 delegates are making their way to Swindon today to attend an event which will look at the challenges of reducing the number of road casualties caused by young drivers, now and in the future.

The event, Young Driver Focus*, is being organised by Road Safety GB in partnership with FirstCar, with support from Arval who are providing the venue and infrastructure.

The event will comprise four sessions: a strategic overview with presentations from DVSA, DIA and TRL; a look at campaigns and interventions developed by road safety officers; a session looking at influencing young driver behaviour; and an expert panel discussion.

James Evans, publisher for FirstCar, who came up with the concept for the event, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the amount of interest in Young Driver Focus. Initially we set a limit of 150 attendees but have extended this to meet demand.

“We’re also delighted with the excellent line up of speakers who have agreed to participate.

“Everything is in place for what should be a really interesting and useful day.”

The event will be filmed and a video made available for people unable to attend, or for delegates wanting a permanent reference for the presentations.

Readers can also follow the conference live on twitter (#youngdriverfocus), and a series of reports will be published here throughout the day.

*Footnote: Young Driver Focus will be held at The Arval Centre in Swindon on Wednesday 14 May 2014, 10.00am – 3.30pm.
