IAM RoadSmart has developed a series of e-learning modules to help drivers improve their skills ‘from the comfort of their own armchair’.

The seven modules focus on specific aspects of driving that ‘many drivers find challenging’, using pictures and animations to help make the key points easily memorable. They also include a series of interactive quizzes and exercises as a reminder of important driving rules.

The topics covered are:

  • Motorway driving
  • Parking and manoeuvring
  • Driving on country roads
  • Driving in towns
  • Managing distractions
  • Managing speed
  • Managing overtaking

The modules, which are also available to business and fleet operators, cost £5 each and offer up to 20 minutes of interactive tuition.

Sarah Sillars, IAM RoadSmart chief executive officer, said: “We believe that e-learning is a great accompaniment to actual road-based tuition, perfect for those who need to quickly update their skills or refresh their knowledge.

“The interactive quizzes and exercises provide a reminder of the most important driving rules and are a great help for those who need to boost their confidence behind the wheel.”

The ultimate skill for any driver is avoiding collisions I would have thought, however in their Managing Overtaking section, there is a sub-section headed ‘Considerations when overtaking at night and in poor weather conditions’ Considerations? There’s only one surely i.e. ‘Don’t’!! Why even mention it?
