The DfT has published details of the initiatives that will benefit from Road Safety Partnership Grant awards in 2010-2011.
The Road Safety Partnership Grant scheme provides extra investment to support projects to help make roads safer.
Funding of up to £260,000 is being made available to Nottinghamshire County Council, representing a group of local authorities in the East Midlands, for the delivery and evaluation of local road safety publicity material. This project will improve the evidence base about the impact and cost effectiveness of publicity. Contact Suzanne Heydon for more information.
Cornwall Council, Hertfordshire County Council and Warwickshire County Council have submitted proposals for improved post-test motorcyclist training on behalf of the southern (south east and south west), eastern and west midlands regions.
Funding of up to £212,000 is available to them for work to promote and develop the Driving Standards Agency’s Enhanced Rider Scheme. Contact Mark Winn at DSA for more information.
Funding of up to £106,000 is being made available to Cheshire East Council to develop an iBike smart phone application. The proposal is to develop a free web-based smart phone application for bikers which will provide them with personalised information about the road safety risks they face on the journeys they are planning to undertake. Funding of up to £44,500 has been made available to BRAKE for Road Safety Week 2010 – for more information go to: www.brake.org.uk .
Funding of up to £38,000 is available for the Child Accident Prevention Trust’s Child Road Safety Week and related website development – for more information visit: www.capt.org.uk .
Funding of up to £32,000 has been made available for Road Safety Great Britain for the conversion of the Road Safety Time Bank into a Road Safety Knowledge Centre. More information will be published about this project in the coming weeks.
In parallel with the Road Safety Partnership Grant scheme the DfT is also providing up to £200,000 to Greater Manchester as a pilot project for recording more effectively speed limit data.
