TIE company develops new funding solution

StopWatch Theatre Company says it is fighting to keep road safety theatre-in-education alive in the UK by developing a new way of funding one of its programmes.

‘Footsteps the Movie’ has been touring the UK since 2008, with each performance creating a short road safety film starring the pupils demonstrating how to cross the road safely.

Parents are now being offered the opportunity to buy a copy of the film on DVD to offset the cost of the performance.

Producer Adrian New said: “Our research shows that Keystage 1 parents would be delighted to own a copy of a short film featuring their child and classmates. And in doing so they are receiving a personal and unique road safety message that their child will want to watch over and over.

“Theatre-in-education has been an invaluable tool for road safety officers for over 20 years and we want to make sure it remains so despite the difficult financial climate.”

Having seen for the past 3 years how well Theatre in Education is received in schools all over the country, particularly with the road safety programmes, it’s great to see that there may be a way of continuing to fund such an enjoyable, and most importantly valuable aspect of a young child’s schooling. Stopwatch are without doubt the best TIE company I’ve had the pleasure of working with, producing shows that are constantly reviewed as ‘the best’ seen by the school, creating an environment where children can learn, laugh and feel good about themselves. Also with Footsteps creating a star out of every child, it is certainly a worthy investment for any parent/grandparent/proud relative. May it continue to aid in the nurture of young people for years to come.
