The editorial team has introduced a limit of 150 words for posts relating to news stories on the Road Safety GB newsfeed. The limit has been introduced as a pilot in the first instance.
Nick Rawlings, editor of the Road Safety GB newsfeed, said: “We are all for free speech and encourage all of our readers to get involved by posting comments on our website.
“However, we are mindful that it is a newsfeed, not a research or academic forum, and we want to keep the nature of posts light and easily digestible.
“We feel that excessively long posts slow down the pace of debate and can put off some readers who may otherwise like to get involved.
“We’re asking contributors to keep their posts to around 150 words and will monitor how this works. If successful we will implement the limit on a permanent basis.”

It might have been useful had I read this before I posted a comment on an earlier story! I agree in principle with the pilot.

Totally agree with Bill and Simon over the limitation! Comment on the story, please don’t use the website as a soapbox! If you have ‘evidence’submit it to the Knowledge Centre and direct us to it. Of course, those who use this forum to soapbox will now disagree . . . watch this space.

Road safety issues can be quite complex. Is 150 words enough?
If a short explanation can be accompanied by a web link (if further detail is needed) that would usually suffice but what if no appropriate web link?
Eg I just commented on this item:

with approx 180 words. That post isn’t too long it is (that’s not rhetorical)?
One of the strengths of this site is the ability to go beyond the sound-bite and into the actual evidence.
May I suggest 250 words max?
