Croydon’s road safety team has come up with an innovative way to promote free cycle training which is currently on offer across the borough.
The training is being promoted with the help of specially branded bikes which are being ridden throughout the borough during week commencing 20 January. The promotional bike riders are dispensing leaflets giving details of the free training to residents.
The free training has been introduced as a result of Croydon’s ‘Cycle Aware’ initiative in November 2013 which revealed that a high percentage of cyclists (47%) wanted additional training, but many were not aware that it was available.
Sue Martin, Croydon’s senior road safety officer, said: “Cycling has become increasingly popular over recent years but unfortunately there is still a gap in basic road safety awareness and too many people are injured or killed while cycling.
“We are keen to raise awareness of our free cycle training programme among our local cycling community and hopefully help keep cyclists safer on Croydon’s roads.”
