Practitioners come together for 2017 Road Safety Wales Conference

A one-day conference taking place in Wales today (21 June) explores the key road safety themes highlighted in the Road Safety Framework for Wales.

The 2017 Road Safety Wales Conference is fully subscribed and sees road safety professionals from across Wales meet at the Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells.

The event will also see the presentation of the 2017 Road Safety Wales Awards*, recognising the good road safety practice, innovative projects and personal contributions being undertaken in Wales.

Divided into morning and afternoon sessions, the agenda for the conference features eight presentations.

The morning session includes a review of the Road Safety Framework for Wales, delivered by Joanne Stevens from the Welsh Government. The session will also see Dr Sarah Jones outline the link between public health and road safety.

The afternoon session includes presentations from Neil Dewson-Smyth, Cheshire Constabulary (Intexticated Driving) and Richard Owen, Road Safety Analysis  (Assessing Wales’ Most Dangerous Roads: A Simple Way to Model Risk and Predict Future Collisions).

Dr Fiona Fylan, Brainbox Research, will also present ‘From Teens to Retirees: Building Evidence-based Interventions with Dyfed Powys Police and Partners’.

Susan Storch, Chair of Road Safety Wales, said: “The fully subscribed event will also be an opportunity for Road Safety Wales to thank this year’s award recipients. The Road Safety Wales Awards recognise the good road safety practice, innovative projects and personal contributions being undertaken in Wales.

“Today’s award recipients are not necessarily road safety professionals, but all have been undertaking road safety professionally.”
