Mayo County Council in Ireland has produced a driver contract in the form of a Christmas card, as part of a campaign to ‘put control into the hands of parents and allow them to enter into a safe-driving pact with their son or daughter’.
Noel Gibbons, Mayo’s RSO, feels that parents have largely been left out of the young driver debate. He believes that they can have a huge influence on whether a teenager is a safe driver or a danger on the road.
He said: ”We hope this card will help parents and teens focus on safe driving habits. They should sit down together and discuss these recommendations so that everyone knows the rules and sticks to them.”
The cards are being sent to schools and colleges across County Mayo and can be downloaded from: www.roadsafetymayo.ie.
