West Dunbartonshire Council’s Kerbcraft child pedestrian training scheme won an award at the 2008 Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Awards.

The scheme, which relies on volunteers to teach practical road safety skills to young people, was recognised for excellence in the Public/Voluntary Partnership Working category at the awards.

Sheila McErlean, Kerbcraft coordinator, said: “I have been asked by other local authorities, ‘How do you manage to be so successful, what is your secret?’ The secret is a team of individuals who share the same objectives, enthusiasm and deliver a fantastic service.”
