Big finale planned for motorcycling campaign

The London Borough of Sutton’s year-long powered two-wheeler campaign is drawing to a close with a big finale in the town’s shopping centre.

The thrust of the campaign has been two-pronged, aiming at both rider and car driver.

Initiatives have included a big screen advertisement in the reception area at the civic offices highlighting that most accidents involving motorcyles happen at junctions when the car driver makes the mistake. The same theme was reflected in advertising on till-roll receipts in Morrisons Supermarket in Sutton. 

Four town centre road safety displays were staged and a partnership with the Metropolitan Police’s BikeSafe team resulted in nearly 100 young riders being offered a one-day course paid for by Sutton Council.

In addition, all new riders taking the free practice theory test on the website of All4Bikers received advice on how to ride defensively from Roy Buchanan, Sutton’s RSO, a motorcyclist for 47 years. 

During the campaign’s finale in the St Nicholas Shopping Centre, a 30-second commercial will be broadcast 700 times on a huge video screen during the last week of May.  The screening urges riders and drivers to do their bit in the interest of motorcycle safety.
