Busy time for Spike

10.19 | 25 September 2009 |

Redcar & Cleveland’s road safety mascot Spike has had a busy few weeks distributing fun packs with a safety message.

Each year more than 2,500 packs are delivered to children starting in the Borough’s nurseries. The packs introduce the children to Spike, a hedgehog character that they will become familiar with over their years at primary school.

Councillor Mary Lanigan said: "This is a lovely way to introduce Spike to the children starting nursery each year whilst teaching them about road safety in a fun and interesting way."

The children receive a bright drawstring bag with pictures to colour in and information for the children and their parents on getting to school and the school crossing patrols.
