Child seat campaigner seeks law change

An e-petition has been set up as part of a Facebook-led campaign to convince the House of Commons to bring in legislation to make extended rear facing child restraints mandatory in the UK.

The campaign has been created by Linsey Myres, a member of the public, to raise awareness of the safety benefits of rear facing child car seats. So far the Facebook page has 639 ‘likes’.

The e-petition says that too many children are killed or seriously injured in road collisions and that experts believe that rear facing car seats, for children up to a minimum age of four, would reduce the severity of crashes.

The petition requests that the House of Commons make extended rear facing child restraints mandatory in the UK for children in this age bracket, due to the safety benefits they can achieve.

Currently, the fledgling e-petition has 227 signatures, but the closing date is not until August 2012.

So many people just don’t know about this option, but if the government backed it, so many more people would find out about it.

Linsey is doing a brilliant job of getting extended rear facing out there. It’s crazy that this has to be argued, people need to hear the facts and figures. Rear facing is so much safer for our kiddies!

It’s a brilliant campaign, but still a shame that parents have to beg the government to improve these standards for children in line with today’s car seat technology. The seats are are available, and SAFER, yet we need to petition government?

A big ‘pat on the back’ for Linsey and her passionate endeavours to raise awareness of rear facing seats.

We are listening and have incorporated additional information into the Goodeggsafety.com website.

New guides will also include information so parents can make an informed choice.

It’s really encouraging to see parents making a stand and lobbying Government when needed.

    Well done!
