A team from Sandy Lane Primary School was crowned winners of a road safety competition dedicated to the memory of Chris Pickett, Bracknell’s former RSO.

The Year 5 pupils beat teams from nine other local schools to be awarded the Chris Pickett Memorial Trophy. Chris, who passed away in 2007, spent the majority of her life working as an RSO in the south east of England.

The competition was based on 40 written questions, and was organised by the road safety team from Bracknell Forest Council. The winning team was also awarded £100 in book tokens for their school.

Rachel Emmett, a teacher from the school, said: “The children worked really hard to learn all about road safety and were excited when the results were announced and they discovered they had won.”

Tina Housego, Bracknell’s RSO, said: “This year’s quiz was slightly different, with a section for adults only.

“This year marks the start of the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety so we created a section for parents and carers on international road signs.”
