Determined campaigning wins Brake award for MP

13.48 | 20 November 2009 |

Brake has named Brian Iddon, MP for Bolton South East, parliamentarian of the month for campaigning for measures to tackle fatalities caused by crashes with lorries.

Mr Iddon has been campaigning fiercely for the introduction of mandatory retro-reflective markings on lorries since 2006. Last month he asked four questions and tabled an Early Day Motion on the issue. He says the Government has “gone back on a promise to introduce the requirement in 2010” and reacted by stepping up his campaign.

Brian said: “I am delighted to receive this award from Brake. On the day I raised this in the Road Safety Bill’s Standing Committee I saw a sports car under a lorry on a slip road on the M6. It convinced I had to carry on with this campaign.”
