An EU funded project has looked at how coaching could be used to develop driver self assessment skills.

The HERMES project investigated how a coaching approach could be used to address the higher levels of Goals for Driver Education (Hatakka 2002).

Ian Edwards, at Driving Solutions, said: “Developing a driver’s ability to self-evaluate is seen as a critical skill in driver education, but is a highly challenging area.

“The three-year HERMES project looked at how coaching, with its focus on increasing awareness and responsibility, could be used to develop these crucial self–assessment skills.”

The project has produced a wide ranging report on coaching, a video and 60 coaching scenarios, which are available online.
