FirstCar enjoyed success at the 2013 Professional Publishers Association’s Independent Publishers Awards, which were presented in London recently.
FirstCar won the ‘Circulation Initiative of the Year Award’ for its work with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) to create two new issues of the magazine. The Theory Edition is handed to all candidates at the point of receiving their theory test results, while the Practical Edition is given to candidates when they receive their practical test results.
Annually more than 1.5m copies of these special FirstCar editions are circulated to candidates by test centre staff.
Working with 10 local authorities, road safety partnerships and police forces, FirstCar created tailored editions with locally relevant information and advice to target high-risk groups and specific driving conditions such as country or urban roads.
Bespoke editions were circulated in Avon and Somerset, Greater Manchester, Buckinghamshire, Suffolk, Leicestershire, Swindon, London, Staffordshire, Kent and Medway, Sussex and Wales.
James Evans, Publisher of FirstCar, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for both FirstCar and DVSA, showcasing what can be achieved by working in partnership to provide more education for new drivers.”
The 2013 Independent Publishers Awards ceremony was hosted by author and journalist Eve Pollard at the Montcalm Hotel in London on 6 December.
