Fund seeking innovative road safety projects

A social enterprise company is allocating grants of up to £2,500 to turn innovative ideas into viable road safety projects.

The grant funding is being provided by How’s My Driving? which is celebrating its 21st anniversary in 2016.

Launched in 1995, How’s My Driving is a sticker scheme for organisations that operate fleets of both heavy and light goods vehicles. As a social enterprise company all of the profits made from the sticker scheme are reinvested back into road safety projects.

How’s My Driving is encouraging road safety teams, schools, individuals and not-for-profit groups to put forward their ideas and apply for funding.

The grant application and allocation process is overseen by a committee comprising logistics industry experts and chaired by Subash Ludhra, former president of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

How’s My Driving? says the purpose of the grant initiative is to ‘drive forward road safety culture by supporting ideas from people who wish to improve road safety in their community’.

The group has previously provided grant funding for road safety projects including walking school buses, road safety youth films and a touring play delivering a message to young adults about the perils of drinking and driving.

Subash Ludhra said: “It’s important that the group focuses its efforts on using the grants for educational purposes, enabling the money to have a positive impact on local communities as well as the wider road safety sector.”
