The Good Egg Driver Campaign has launched a new programme designed to boost safe driving among young people aged 17-24 years, spearheaded by 18-year-old racing driver Christie Doran.
100,000 copies of The Good Egg Guide for New Drivers will be distributed to young motorists across the UK via advanced driving instructors, schools, colleges, road safety professionals and campaign supporters. The booklet gives practical advice to help pass the test and stay safe on the road. The campaign will also distribute The Parents Guide for New Drivers which provides information to help support new motorists in the family.
The Good Egg Drivers campaign, which is backed by the Arnold Clark motor group and the young driver insurer ingenie, says that on average 12 young drivers or passengers are killed or seriously injured every day across the UK. The campaign also points out that around 20% of new drivers aged 17-24 years old are involved in a collision within the first six months of passing their driving test.
The campaign’s new public face, the young Scottish racing driver Christie Doran, competes in the BMW Compact Cup. She will visit schools to brief new and prospective motorists on safe driving.
The collaboration between Christie Doran and Good Egg Drivers is designed to encourage young people to learn the importance of car control and good driving practices.
Speaking of her role as a Good Egg ambassador, Christie said: “I am delighted to be involved with Good Egg as I wanted to help highlight the devastating consequences when drivers my age get it wrong on the roads.
“However, we also want to show that there is a positive side to young drivers. Most are sensible. They are the role models”
Jan James, chief executive of Good Egg Safety, said: "We are delighted to have Christie on board. Her youth, passion and driving talent will, we hope, inspire and engage other young drivers.
“Our New Driver and Parents’ Guides offer practical advice and distil all the key information young drivers need to help them get their licence, keep it and, most importantly, stay safer on our roads."
Richard King, CEO of ingenie added: “We believe that better education and practical advice is the key to reducing the tragic number of young driver deaths and injuries on our roads, so we’re delighted to support the Good Egg Driver campaign.”
Honor Byford, chair of Road Safety GB: "These new guides from Good Egg are a great way to get vital information out to young people and their parents.
“It is a worry when someone’s son or daughter takes to the road for the first time, and we do our best to give them as much advice as possible. The new guides do just that in a very informal and encouraging way.
“This is exactly the kind of communication needed to help form better attitudes, better awareness, and a reduction in casualties among this vulnerable road user group and Road Safety GB is delighted to endorse them.”
