Brake has announced the finalists for the Fleet Safety Awards 2016 with the London Borough of Redbridge (featured above) among the contenders.

The annual event recognises the achievements of fleet operators in their efforts to reduce road crashes involving at-work drivers.

The awards are presented in 15 categories including ‘Fleet Safety Partnership’ and ‘Road Safety in the Community’, with the winner of the top award for ‘Outstanding Commitment to Road Safety’ revealed at the end of the evening.

This year, the road safety charity received a record number of first-time entries, and finalists include household names such as Nestlé, Royal Mail, and Sainsbury’s.

Redbridge Council is a finalist in the ‘Safer Vehicles’ category.

In December 2014, the council published a video highlighting its fleet safety work, which includes an accredited training centre where drivers and fleet operators can take Driver Certificate of Professional Competence courses. Redbridge also hosts an annual Transport Show (see video above).

Ellie Pearson, professional engagement manager at Brake, said: “We’ve been incredibly impressed with this year’s entries and it’s great that many companies have entered our awards for the first time.

"It is fantastic that so many organisations of different sizes are making a real effort to end the needless crashes on our roads as a result of at-work drivers.”

The winners will be announced at the awards’ dinner on 29 September at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.
