The London Road Safety Council has joined forces with TIER, the world’s largest shared micro-mobility provider, to co-operate on safety issues in the Capital.
Founded in 2018, TIER provides dockless, rental e-scooters and e-bikes. It currently operates in more than 560 cities across 32 countries in Europe, the United States and the Middle East – including London.
Under the new partnership, TIER will sponsor the London Road Safety Council website.
Alderman Alison Gowman, chair of the London Road Safety Council, said: “We’ve seen the growth in micro-mobility in London in recent years – including the ongoing trials of rental e-scooters which TIER are one of the providers for.
“We welcome this partnership as an opportunity to work with TIER to ensure safety is always at the forefront of its operations – helping to protect all road users.”
The London Road Safety Council will also sit on TIER’s UK Safety Board, further helping to ensure the safety of all road users is prioritised in future endeavours.
Composed of independent experts in road safety, accessibility and visual impairment, TIER’s UK Safety Board meets quarterly to scrutinise TIER’s approach to safe and responsible operations, as well as raising the bar for safety standards across the entire e-scooter sector.
Kate Barnes, head of public policy – safety and inclusion, TIER, said: “The London Road Safety Council has played a vital role in improving the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users in the capital for over 100 years under various guises. It has consistently proven that education has an impactful and measurable effect on reducing serious injury and deaths on our roads.
“Safety is our top priority at TIER, and supporting the continued work the LRSC does is just part of our mission to ensure all Londoners feel safe using active travel to get around.
“We are also extremely thankful for LRSC agreeing to sit on our own Safety Board, ensuring our aims are aligned and enabling us to maximise our joint efforts to create a safer London.”
