National Highways has been unveiled as a new headline sponsor for the National Road Safety Conference, which is being staged in Harrogate later this year.

The National Road Safety Conference, Road Safety GB’s flagship annual event, hasn’t been staged as an in-person event since November 2019.

The 2022 conference will be held at The Majestic hotel in Harrogate on 9-10 November. More than 240 people have already registered to attend.

National Highways, formerly Highways England, is the government company charged with operating, maintaining and improving England’s motorways and major A roads. National Highways’ ambition is to ensure the country’s major roads are more dependable, durable and – most importantly – safe.

National Highways joins Jenoptik and Westcotec as headline sponsors of the 2022 National Conference. A further 12 organisations have already booked to participate in the exhibition which runs alongside the conference.

Speaking about the National Highways sponsorship, James Gibson, executive director of Road Safety GB, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have National Highways on board as a sponsor of National Conference 2022.

“The safety of users of the Strategic Road Network is obviously critically important to National Highways, which is why the National Conference – the largest annual dedicated event for road safety professionals across the UK – is such a good fit.

“Road Safety GB and National Highways have always enjoyed a good working relationship, and with our former director of research Jeremy Phillips now head of road user safety at National Highways, the relationship looks set to strengthen going forward.”

Jeremy Phillips, head of road user safety at National Highways said: “We are pleased to sponsor this year’s National Road Safety Conference, which reinforces our commitment to working with and supporting our road safety partners – including colleagues working hard to improve safety on local roads.

“Achieving our ambition of wanting everyone who uses and works on our roads to get home safe and well is reflected in our commitment to support road safety across the wider national network.”
