Eight new fixed spot speed cameras, which are being installed across Scotland, have been described as “a powerful addition to the road safety toolkit”.
The VECTOR SR spot speed cameras are being installed for Transport Scotland by enforcement camera maker Jenoptik.
The VECTOR SR is described by Jenoptik as an ‘approved fully self-contained traffic enforcement system used to capture spot speed or red light and speed on green offences’.
It uses radar for spot speed enforcement, or to identify when a vehicle crosses the white line at a traffic signal, with the VECTOR ANPR used to identify the vehicle involved.
Because of its lightweight design it can be installed on passively safe columns, fitted to existing street furniture or infrastructure such as gantries.
Transport Scotland is installing the cameras to improve road safety at eight sites, following analysis of speed and collision data.
The new fixed cameras are able to enforce 24 hours a day, with the capability to monitor vehicles travelling in both directions.
Geoff Collins, deputy managing director of Jenoptik, calls the new technology “a powerful addition to the road safety toolkit”.
He said: “With no in-road loops or distracting flashes, they are an effective way to enhance safety at a number of locations across west and central Scotland.
“We are delighted to be working with Transport Scotland and supporting the delivery of Scotland’s road safety vision.”
