Almost one in 10 young Welsh drivers admit to driving after drinking alcohol, and one in 25 say they have taken drugs before getting behind the wheel, according to a survey by the road safety charity Brake.

Brake surveyed 226 drivers between the ages of 17 and 25. More than one in six (18%) said they had crashed, and one in 20 said they had crashed more than once. Almost two-thirds who say they have crashed are male.

The survey also revealed a large number of drivers who didn’t know the length of time it took for alcohol to disappear from their bloodstream. Half of those surveyed underestimated the time it takes to sober up after drinking.
