Car two visits Stoke, where a road safety symposium at Keele University will look at how the Highway Code and enforcement will need to adapt to new technology.
And finally, car three arrives in Leeds for a road safety symposium at Leeds University about how technology and human factors affect post-crash response. The event will also see the launch of the Leeds City Council’s Vision Zero road safety strategy.

Don’t get distracted!
Don’t get distracted when you are behind the wheel. Taking your eyes off the road can put both you and other drivers at risk. Check out this video where a lorry driver nearly veered into an unmarked HGV because he was on the phone.#ProjectEDWARD pic.twitter.com/DkjSkYVuOo

Raising awareness of road safety for horses and their riders
Warwickshire road safety partners are raising awareness of how drivers, cyclists and bikers should safely pass a horse and rider on the roads by joining together to create a new online video in partnership with the Project Edward team.
The film stars Petey, a warmblood gelding, and can be viewed here: horse rider road safety film – YouTube
Last year nationally 66 horses were killed, and 126 riders were injured and the film highlights how passing horses wide and slow on our roads can significantly reduce these numbers.

Community Speed Watch takes place in South Yorkshire
On Safe Speeds Day, volunteers from Waverley Community Speed Watch took part in a new pilot scheme to clamp down on dangerous driving. It was great to visit them and speak about the issues they face when it comes to illegal driving on local roads. @ProjectEdward @SYPCC #slowdown pic.twitter.com/FetCGplE1H

Where are the road trips today?
The first of the road trip cars will arrive in London, where the Metropolitan Police will be promoting two speed awareness and enforcement activities. The first is aimed at reducing risk for vulnerable road users while the second targets drivers of commercial vehicles.
The second will be visiting South Wales Police to discuss the success of the 20mph zones implemented by the Welsh Government. Contributions will come from senior police and council officials and include a look at the national dashcam safety portal.
Last but not least, the third road trip car is in Preston, where a public engagement event is taking place at the famous Preston Bus Station – one of the largest in the world.
Hosted by the Lancashire Road Safety Partnership, the event will feature various road safety demonstrations and activities.

Welcome to day three
Today is National Safe Speed day, which aims to highlight the risks of driving above the speed limit.
The day is also an opportunity to encourage drivers and riders to reflect on the speeds they choose and if necessary to change their minds, slow down and help reduce risk.
