Raising awareness of road safety for horses and their riders
Warwickshire road safety partners are raising awareness of how drivers, cyclists and bikers should safely pass a horse and rider on the roads by joining together to create a new online video in partnership with the Project Edward team.

The film stars Petey, a warmblood gelding, and can be viewed here: horse rider road safety film – YouTube

Last year nationally 66 horses were killed, and 126 riders were injured and the film highlights how passing horses wide and slow on our roads can significantly reduce these numbers.

Where are the road trips today?
The first of the road trip cars will arrive in London, where the Metropolitan Police will be promoting two speed awareness and enforcement activities. The first is aimed at reducing risk for vulnerable road users while the second targets drivers of commercial vehicles.

The second will be visiting South Wales Police to discuss the success of the 20mph zones implemented by the Welsh Government. Contributions will come from senior police and council officials and include a look at the national dashcam safety portal.

Last but not least, the third road trip car is in Preston, where a public engagement event is taking place at the famous Preston Bus Station – one of the largest in the world.

Hosted by the Lancashire Road Safety Partnership, the event will feature various road safety demonstrations and activities.
