Project EDWARD has announced that its ‘My Role in the Safe System’ podcast will be going global during the month of October – with a special five-part mini-series.
‘Project EDWARD Goes Global’ will be released weekly from Friday 3 October through to Friday 31 October, sharing worldwide perspectives on road safety and casualty reduction.
Hosted by Harrison Keasey and James Luckhurst, the global series will bring together leading voices from across the globe who are driving change in how communities, cities and nations approach road danger reduction.
South Africa
The first episode features Alida Venter from South Africa, who has been instrumental in introducing and developing the Project EDWARD initiative in her country over the past eight years. Her interview provides unique insight into the challenges and successes of embedding a European-born initiative at a local level.
Finland
In the second episode, engineer Roni Utriainen and researcher Igor Radun from Helsinki reflect on the city’s remarkable achievement of securing an entire year (August 2024 to July 2025) without a single traffic death. They also weigh the sobering reality of three fatalities recorded in August 2025, underscoring how fragile progress can be.
United Arab Emirates
The third episode welcomes Thomas Edelmann from Road Safety UAE, who shares his perspectives on the fast-evolving road safety agenda in one of the world’s most rapidly developing regions.
Vietnam
In episode number four the team welcome Trang Truong from the AIP Foundation in Vietnam, a Prince Michael Road Safety Award winner, to discuss her organisation’s work in protecting vulnerable road users and advancing education for safer journeys.
New Zealand
The final episode turns to Professor Simon Kingham from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, where debate continues around a government decision to raise speed limits – potentially undermining years of progress in reducing fatalities.
James Luckhurst, Project EDWARD creator, said: “This mini-series of five fascinating conversations highlights the universal challenge of road death and injury while honouring the efforts of those who continue to campaign and innovate for safer streets.”
