TfL to host ‘celebration of cycling’
To mark the ‘Women’s Tour’ arriving in London for the first time on 11 June, Transport for London (TfL) is hosting a day of activities to celebrate and promote women’s cycling.
Now in its fourth year, the OVO Energy Women’s Tour is a part of the UCI Women’s World Tour. The 2017 Women’s Tour (7-11 June) will include stages in Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire and Derbyshire, before finishing in the Capital.

The final stage of the race will take place over 14-laps of the ‘iconic’ six kilometre circuit used by the men’s Tour of Britain, starting and finishing on Regent Street and featuring landmarks including Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and Whitehall on every lap.
TfL’s ‘Celebration of Cycling’ will see 100 women ride the closed road route, to show cycling is for everyone, and most importantly that is fun. Participants will include Sonya Hurt, chair of Road Safety GB, who is a keen cyclist.
TfL hopes the ride will include cyclists with a range of abilities, backgrounds, professions and bikes. Every London borough has been invited to participate in the day’s activities.
As part of the Rink Ribbon Tour, around 1,000 women will also take part in a charity ride to raise money for Breast Cancer Care, while TFL will be on hand to provide information about cycling in London.

Somerset event to promote safety to all road users
With car, motorcycle and bicycle dealers displaying products, alongside the emergency services and other charitable organisations, the two-day Somerset Road Safety Event is aiming to promote road safety to road users.
Taking place between 9-10 September, attendees to the free event will have the opportunity to take on motorcycle slow manoeuvring exercises, while car drivers can practice a variety of parking exercises including the ‘self-park’ systems.
The event will also feature more than 30 exhibitors, including the DVSA, Highways England and the DHL ‘TACS’ team, while IAM RoadSmart, who have contributed toward the event, will be there to promote their programmes.

Training day to focus on drink and drug driving
A one-day event taking place in London on 1 July will look at the topical matters and current practice/learning points in forensic medicine, specifically in the area of drink/drug driving
Organised by the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine (FFLM), the Drink Drug Driving Day is attended by forensic practitioners (mainly doctors but also some nurses and paramedics), police and other interested stakeholders.
The event will feature an expert panel Q&A session, and delegates will be able to submit any questions they would like answered ahead of the day.
