The next webinar for Road Safety GB members will provide an update on a mobile app-based rewards scheme, which attempts to use gamification and ‘smart behavioural science’ to improve the mindset and performance of drivers.
The Safe Roads Challenge app launched in the UK during 2024 and uses digital ‘Pyns’ that automatically trigger rewards for compliant driving. Drivers can then exchange XP collected through the app for offers with a host of brands.
The aim is to improve driving standards and reduce road casualties – with the data collected used to ‘drive real change’ via proactive risk reduction, ongoing driver coaching and motor insurance benefits.
The webinar, titled ‘How tech-forward gamification can dramatically improve the mindset and performance of UK drivers’, is being delivered by:
- Bill Bland, president & CEO, Medidas Technologies
- Iain Martin, managing director, the Safe Roads Challenge UK
- Paul Cope, managing director, The Creative Lab & UK director, the Safe Roads Challenge UK
It takes place on Zoom at 2pm on Thursday 6 February. It lasts 45 minutes; 20/25 minutes for the a presentation with similar time for questions.
Registration is now open – and is free for employees of Road Safety GB member organisations and RSGB Academy members only.
If you are unsure about your membership status, please register at the above link and Road Safety GB will cross check its membership database before confirming your place.
Full webinar synopsis
Smart tech that leverages behavioural science has never been a more important tool to help lower the amount and severity of road traffic collisions in the UK.
Despite a whole raft of awareness campaigns and punitive measures targeting poor driving, casualty numbers remain stubbornly high.
The Safe Roads Challenge aims to inspire a culture of positivity and reward for being a safer, more mindful driver and set new standards in driving across the UK. Key to this ambition is to make the programme fun, accessible and motivating for people to do on every trip, thus creating an enduring safe driving movement. This presentation will explain why that’s important and how this is being achieved.
